Phase 1, 230 Tear Down, Page 2
Stud Remover
Using a stud remover I removed all of them out without any breakage. Good example of using the right tool for the right job.
Oil Pan
Using an air powered socket drive I quickly removed all the bolts attaching the oil pan to the block. Screwdriver was used to pry the pan off. As you can see the pan was quite dirty and full of sludge about 3/4 inch thick.
Oil Strainer And Bypass
Next the oil pickup and bypass tube are removed. They will be cleaned and saved for possible future use.
Timing Gear
As the timing chain was removed during the earlier inspection, next to go is the timing gear on the crankshaft. It has a steel key to keep it from turning on the crank. A 6 inch gear puller is attached with a socket adapter acting as a stop in the front of the crankshaft. The air gun makes quick work of removing the gear and key.
