What does P15-D24.com use for a support vehicle ?

Flathead Overhaul Project
Big Red is getting a new engine. The existing 217 engine starts easily, but is burning and leaking oil. A compression test shows #5 and #6 are around 90 pounds of compression, with the remaining cylinders between 105-110. The cloud of blue smoke on deceleration confirms oil is getting past the rings. The existing 217 block will not be used because several cracks in the water jacket have been identified. I have two spare blocks, a Dodge D24 230 c.i. and Plymouth P23 217 c.i. The D24 has serious rust damage to the valve train and head. However the crank appears to be usable. The P23 block also appears to be usable. The '46 - '56 Hollander Interchange Manual indicates the blocks are fully interchangeable. The end objective it use the 230 crank and rods in the 217 P23 block. The only potential problem is the length of the crankshaft. The D24 crank is approximately 1/4 - 5/16 longer than the P23 crank. I have purchased a Dodge 8 bolt flywheel which is required to correct the length difference.

Step one is now completed. If you have any questions, comments or feedback, drop me an email at info@p15-D24.com. And don't forget to check back for updates.
Phase One: Tear Down of the 230 CI Block
Phase Two: Tear Down of the 217 CI Block

Brake Overhaul Project
Probably the most common problem P15 and D24 owners have are brakes. I have seen more posts on web sites seeking brake overhaul help than any other topic. The following article is reprinted from Jim Leman's The P15 Driver newsletter. I will be adding additional photos as I start working on my P15 brakes this winter. Now STOP what your doing and fix those brakes !
